Drought Conditions in Certain Areas in Southeast

Abnormally dry conditions continue to be isolated to certain parts of the Southeast, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The northern part of Florida is abnormally dry. These include counties as far west as Jefferson to Duval along the Atlantic coast and as far south as Marion and Citrus counties. Portions of a few counties along the Panhandle are abnormally dry as well. These include Escambia, Santa Rose and Okaloosa.

Dry conditions are only being seen in a few western counties in Alabama. Portions of Sumter and Hale counties are abnormally dry and stretch to Mobile and Baldwin counties where they are moderately dry. Parts of Clarke, Monrore and Wilcox counties are abnormally dry as well.

Georgia’s dry conditions are seen along the southern border, as far west as Brooks County and moving along the Atlantic coast northward to Effingham County and part of Bulloch County. The abnormally dry conditions reach as far north as Coffee County, Appling County, Tattnall County and Evans County.

South Carolina’s abnormally dry conditions are mostly seen in the northeast part of the state. Moderate drought conditions are felt in parts of Florence, Williamsburg, Marion, Dillon, Marlboro and Darlington counties.

North Carolina’s abnormally dry conditions are mostly seen in the southern and western parts of the state. Dry conditions are seen as far east as Carteret County and stretches as far west as Rutherford, Burke and Avery counties and as far north as Ashe, Alleghany, Surry, Caswell and Person counties.
