Drought-like conditions continue to persist across parts of the Southeast. But they have also decreased since a couple of weeks ago, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Florida’s dry conditions are mostly isolated to the northern region of the state. Abnormally dry conditions are observed in an area containing Dixie, Levy, Gilchrist, Columbia, Union, Alachua, Marion and Citrus counties. Polk and Hardee counties are abnormally dry in southern Florida, while parts of Brevard, Osceola, Orange, Indian River in eastern Florida are abnormally dry as well.
Northern Alabama is either abnormally dry, moderately dry or severely dry, while counties located along the Georgia-Alabama state line are abnormally dry. Other than along the eastern border of Alabama, the dry conditions are observed as far south as Sumter, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Saint Clair and Calhoun counties. Severe conditions are located in Lamar, Fayette, Marion and Walker counties in western Alabama, and also in Lauderdale and Limestone counties, along the Alabama-Tennessee state line.
The majority of North Georgia is moderately dry, starting in Dade and Walker counties, stretching eastward to Stephens and Rabun counties and southward to Paulding, Cobb and Fulton counties. Central Georgia is either abnormally dry or moderately dry. The worst conditions are located in Marion, Schley, Taylor, Peach, Macon, Houston, Pulaski, Bleckley, Dodge, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Baldwin, Jones and Jasper counties.
