Since 2019, Sweet Grown Alabama has been synonymous with marketing locally grown crops in the state. Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson hopes to continue that expansion over the next five years and beyond.
“We have been incredibly proud of the growth of Sweet Grown Alabama in just five short years, and we are continuing to gain new members every single day and continuing to reach more consumers. We feel like we’re probably in a toddler, young child stage at this point, being five years old,” Watson said. “Our goal is to continue growing and becoming a household name across Alabama so that when consumers begin to look for local products, they know immediately to visit sweetgrownalabama.org where they can find everything from local produce to local meats to local honey near then.”
Sweet Grown Alabama is a non-profit organization that provides and outlet for Alabama producers to connect with retailers and consumers. Specialty crop farmers can market their fruits and vegetables anywhere in the state thanks to a large and diverse database.
According to Aisling Walding, assistant director for Sweet Grown Alabama, the database contains more than 400 listings of farms, farmers’ markets, farmstands and agricultural businesses in Alabama.
