
The most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor shows dry conditions expanding and worsening across the Southeast.
Nearly all of central and northern Alabama is either abnormally dry, moderately dry or severely dry. Severe conditions start in Choctaw and Clarke counties in the southwest part of the state and expand northeastward to Clay and Randolph counties. Moderate conditions then expand northward to the Alabama-Tennessee state line.
Almost all of Georgia is experiencing some level of dry conditions. Moderate drought is observed in the southwest part of the state, starting in Early and Clay counties and expanding eastward to Wilcox, Pulaski and Dodge counties. It is also observed in a small area in Southeast Georgia, starting in parts of Clinch and Ware counties and stretching eastward to Long, McIntosh and Liberty counties. Moderate drought is also seen in various parts of North Georgia.
Like Georgia, almost all of Florida is experiencing drought. Moderate drought starts in Levy, Marion and Putnam counties and stretch southward to Collier, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Moderate drought covers most of the Carolinas as well.
