Drought conditions vary across the southern states. Alabama has a few counties that are abnormally dry. Much of West Georgia is abnormally dry, and the southwest corner of Florida is either abnormally dry, moderately dry, severely dry or extremely dry, according to the latest release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Only a few areas in Alabama are abnormally dry. These include parts of Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Limestone and Lawrence counties in Northwest Alabama. Parts of Randolph, Chambers, Lee and Russell counties along the Alabama-Georgia state line are abnormally dry, as are the northern area of Mobile County and Escambia, Conecuh and Monrore counties in southern Alabama.
The driest area in Georgia is concentrated to the western counties in the central part of the state. It starts as far north as Floyd and Bartow counties and stretches southward to Chattahoochee and Marion counties. Rabun, Towns, Union, White and Habersham counties in Northeast Georgia are abnormally dry as well.
Extreme dry conditions are observed along the western areas of Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte counties in Southwest Florida. Severe dry conditions are seen in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee counties.
Only a few counties are abnormally dry in South Carolina and North Carolina.
