The Florida Ag Expo is a little more than a week away. Pre-registration is just a few days away for those interested in attending the event, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One of the highlights of the event every year are the field tours at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma, Florida.
Josh McGill, show director for AgNet Media, talked about the field tours, slated to start around 2:15 p.m.
“We’re super excited for the field tours. That’s kind of the thing that sets this show apart, I think, from a lot of our other events and other events in the industry is that growers get the opportunity to jump on the back of the tractor, get out in the field and see these crops; see some of the issues; see some of the field trials going on there at the university. We’re excited for that,” McGill said.
The field tours will cover topics related to weed management, cover crops, alternative crops, disease research trials and hops research.
“Of course, the highlight that I think a lot of people look forward to is the beer tasting in the hop yard where they not only get to see the hop yard but get to see a really interesting form of agriculture and the infrastructure that goes into growing hops. They also get to try some of the beer that’s made here locally in Florida from the hops grown. We’re super excited for the field tours this year and looking forward to a great show.”
