The lack of rainfall continues to be observed in the central and southern regions of Florida, while Georgia and Alabama are mostly enjoying sufficient moisture, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Moderate and severe drought conditions dominate the central and southern areas of Florida. Severe drought starts as far north as Hillsborough, Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Osceola and Brevard counties and stretch southward to Palm Beach, Broward, Hendry and Collier counties. Moderate dry conditions are felt as far north as Volusia, Seminole and Orange counties and stretch as far south as Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
Excessive rains have kept Georgia mostly drought free. One area in the northwest part of the state has abnormally dry conditions. They include parts of Clayton, Fulton, Douglas, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Cherokee counties. The rest of the state has sufficient moisture.
Like Georgia, Alabama has received its share of rainfall recently. The only area that is dry is located in counties located along the Alabama-Mississippi state line. Abnormally dry conditions are observed in Pickens and Lamar counties. The rest of the state has sufficient moisture.
A small area in the southeastern region of South Carolina is abnormally dry, including parts of Allendale, Barnwell, Bamberg, Orangeburg, Berkeley, Clarendon, Calhoun, Sumter, Lee, Williamsburg and Florence counties. North Carolina is mostly drought free, except for portions of a few counties located in the northeast part of the state.
