Drought is worsening across the Southeast, with most of Alabama, Florida and Georgia experiencing either abnormally dry or moderately dry conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Florida’s worst conditions are located in the northeastern part of the state. They start as far south as Citrus and Marion counties and stretch northward to Nassau, Baker, Columbia, Hamilton, Madison and Jefferson counties along the Florida-Georgia state line, and westward to Dixie and Taylor counties. Parts of Osceola, Brevard and Indian River counties are moderately dry in the central and southern regions of the state.
Moderate dry conditions are also observed in southern Georgia. They start as far west as Grady and Mitchell counties and stretch eastward to Camden, Glynn and McIntosh counties, and northward to Bacon, Jeff Davis and Appling counties. A long stretch of moderate conditions is observed in the central and northern regions of Georgia. It starts as far south as Bleckley and Laurens counties and stretches northward to Paulding and Cobb counties.
A couple of areas in Alabama are moderately dry. One is located in the southeastern part of the state, including Coffee, Dale and Henry counties. Another is observed in the central part of the state, including Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Shelby and Talladega counties. Most of northern Alabama is abnormally dry.
All of South Carolina and North Carolina is either abnormally dry or moderately dry.
