Drought Monitor: Dry Conditions Expanding Across Southeast Region

The most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor shows dry conditions covering all of Alabama and Georgia and the Florida Panhandle.

Florida’s abnormally dry conditions start in Escambia County and stretches as far east as Taylor and Madison counties.

Abnormally dry conditions cover the majority of Georgia, except for a small area in the southeastern part of the state. A couple of counties in Northwest Georgia are experiencing moderate dry conditions. These include Chattooga, Walker, Dade and Catoosa.

All of Alabama remains dry. Severe dry conditions are isolated to two areas in the state. One is in the southwestern part of the state, starting in Mobile County and stretches northward to Green and Hale counties and as far east as Wilcox and Monroe counties. North Alabama counties, including Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison and Jackson are severely dry.

Most of South Carolina is abnormally dry, though a portion of the southeastern part of the state is moderately dry. North Carolina has abnormally dry conditions in the southeastern and northern parts of the state.
