Drought continues to linger across certain regions of the Southeast, but it is dissipating in some areas. This is according to the most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Florida is suffering through mostly dry conditions with moderate drought remaining in the northern part of the state. An area in the Florida Panhandle, including Holmes, Washington, Bay, Gulf, Franklin, Liberty, Calhoun, Gadsden and Jackson counties is moderately dry. Northeast Florida is also moderately dry, starting as far west as Taylor and Lafayette counties, stretching as far south as Citrus and Marion counties and as far east as Duval and Saint Johns counties.
Alabama’s dry conditions are mostly concentrated to the central and northern regions of the state. Severe drought is observed in Choctaw, Clarke, Marengo, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry and Wilcox counties in western Alabama. Severe drought is also seen in Lowndes, Dallas and Autauga counties in central Alabama and also in Franklin, Lawrence, Lauderdale and Limestone counties in North Alabama.
Most of Georgia’s dry conditions are observed in the southwest and southeast parts of the state. Moderate drought is seen in Decatur, Seminole, Miller, Early, Baker, Mitchell, Clay, Calhoun, Dougherty, Randolph, Terrell, Lee, Worth, Sumter, Crisp, Turner, Dooly, Pulaski and Wilcox counties in Southwest Georgia; and also in Ware, Charlton, Wayne, Glynn, Long and McIntosh counties in Southeast Georgia.
Moderate drought is also observed in portions of Heard and Carroll counties in West Georgia and also in Dade, Walker and Catoosa counties in North Georgia.
