Drought Monitor: Dry Weather Expanding, Worsening Across Southeast

Dry weather is expanding and worsening across the Southeast, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. The driest areas are located along the Southwest Alabama-Northwest Florida region.

Extreme drought is observed in parts of Mobile, Escambia, Monrore and Conecuh counties in Alabama. Severe drought is seen in other parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Clarke, Escambia, Monrore and Conecuh counties. Abnormal drought conditions have spread as far north as Tuscaloosa, Bibb and Shelby counties.

A moderate drought is being reported along the Florida panhandle. It starts in Escambia County and spreads west to parts of Gadsden County. Extreme drought is also noticed in parts of Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties in Southwest Florida. Dry conditions in that part of Florida start as far north as Pasco County and spread southward to Collier County.

Georgia’s dry conditions are mostly concentrated to the southwest and central parts of the state. Moderate dry conditions are observed in Seminole and parts of Decatur, Miller and Early counties. Abnormally dry conditions stretch as far north as Muscogee and Harris counties.

Parts of the northwest area of South Carolina are dry as well. A moderate drought is observed in part of Chester County. The driest part of North Carolina is in the northern area of the state. A moderate drought is seen in Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden and Currituck counties.
