Drought Update in the Southeast

The most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor shows nearly all of Alabama is in a moderate drought or worse; most of northern Georgia and the southwest part of the state are at least abnormally dry; while the Florida Panhandle is mostly severely dry.

Alabama’s dry conditions have worsened in recent weeks. Little to no precipitation has been observed throughout the state. Extreme drought remains in parts of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Monrore and Conecuh counties. Severe drought is observed throughout most of southern and all of northern Alabama.

Southwest Georgia is observing anywhere from abnormally dry to severely dry conditions. They start in Seminole and Decatur counties and stretch eastward to Worth and Tift counties and northward to Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Marion and Schley counties. Northwest Georgia is severely dry, including Chattooga, Walker, Dade, Catoosa, Whitfield and Fannin counties.

Conditions in the Florida Panhandle have also worsened. Starting in Escambia County and stretching to Liberty and Gadsden counties, conditions are either abnormally dry, moderately dry or severely dry. The west coast is also dry, including extreme conditions in Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.
