U.S. Drought Monitor: Dry Conditions Continue to Linger Throughout Southeast

The lingering drought over much of the Southeast is intensifying in the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama and North Georgia areas, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Severe dry conditions are observed in Escambia County in the Florida Panhandle and stretch to Jackson County. Moderate dry conditions are seen from Bay County to Jefferson and Taylor counties. Abnormally dry conditions extend to Baker, Union, Alachua and Levy counties.

In South Alabama, severe dry conditions are observed, stretching from Mobile and Baldwin counties eastward to Houston County. Moderate dry conditions are also located in the central and northern parts of the state, while abnormally dry conditions are mostly statewide.

Severe dry conditions in Georgia are concentrated to the northern part of the state, starting as far as south as Jasper and Putnam counties and stretching northward to Lumpkin, White and Union counties. Moderate dry conditions start as far south as Crisp and Wilcox counties and stretch to all North Georgia counties. Abnormally dry conditions are located sporadically across Georgia.

Moderate and severe dry conditions are located in the western area of South Carolina. Moderate and abnormal dry conditions are located in various areas of North Carolina.
