Drought-like conditions continue to spread across the Southeast, especially in Alabama, Florida and Georgia, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
All but a small portion of Alabama is experiencing dry conditions. They range in severity, from extreme drought in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Conecuh and Monrore counties in Southwest Alabama, to abnormally dry conditions in the central and eastern parts of the state.
Most of Florida’s dry areas are concentrated in the northern part of the state. A severe drought is observed in Northwest Florida, starting in Escambia County and stretching eastward to Holmes, Washington and Bay counties. Abnormally dry conditions are seen in Northeast Florida.
An extreme drought remains along the southwest coast in Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Much of Georgia’s dry conditions are being observed in the western part of the state. A severe drought is seen in Decatur and Seminole counties in Southwest Georgia. Moderate dry conditions surround the area in Early, Miller, Baker and Mitchell counties. Abnormal conditions stretch northward to Clayton and Fulton counties. Abnormal and moderate conditions are observed in North Georgia, from Dade County to Rabun County.
