Dry Conditions Expanding Across Southeast

Dry conditions are becoming more widespread across the Southeast. In some areas of the region, the dry weather is classified as a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Dry Conditions

The worst conditions are observed along the Florida Panhandle. A moderate drought starts in Escambia County and stretches Liberty and Franklin counties. Abnormal drought conditions continue eastward to Jefferson County. Dry conditions are also seen along the west coast of Florida. They start as far north Hernando and Pasco counties and stretch southward to Collier County.

Extreme drought is observed in parts of Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Most of southern Alabama is either abnormally dry or moderately dry. The worst conditions are seen in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Monrore and Conecuh counties. The dry conditions stretch eastward to Houston County along the Alabama-Georgia state line and northward to Chilton and Bibb counties.

Georgia’s dry conditions are mostly concentrated to the southwest corner of the state. They start in Seminole and Early counties and stretch eastward to parts of Clinch, Atkinson and Coffee counties.

The north-central region of South Carolina is either abnormally dry or moderately dry. So is the eastern area of North Carolina.
