Dry conditions spreading in Florida

Drought-like conditions still exist across some areas of the Southeast, according to the most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor. The worst areas are still located along Southwest Florida, starting as far north as Hernando County and stretching southward to Lee and Collier counties.

Extreme drought is observed in parts of Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.

A wide stretch of the Florida Panhandle is abnormally dry as well. It starts in Escambia County and stretches eastward to Leon and Wakulla counties.

South Alabama is abnormally dry. It starts in Mobile and Washington counties and stretches eastward to Houston and Henry counties along the Alabama-Georgia state line. Parts of Escambia and Conecuh are in a moderate drought. Dallas County is abnormally dry as well.

Georgia has mostly sufficient moisture except for a few sporadic areas around the state. The driest area is in central Georgia, in Upson, Monroe, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Fayette and Coweta counties. Parts of Seminole and Decatur counties in Southwest Georgia are abnormally dry, as are Towns and Rabun counties in Northeast Georgia.

The northern area of South Carolina is abnormally dry, starting as far west as York, Chester and Fairfield counties and stretching eastward to Florence County. Eastern North Carolina is mostly abnormally dry as well.
