USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) sent out its first Hemp Acreage and Production Survey this week. Going to nearly 2,000 producers across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, this survey is designed to collect information on the total planted and harvested area, yield, production, and value of hemp in the U.S.
“The Hemp Acreage and Production Survey will provide critical data about the hemp industry to assist producers, regulatory agencies, state governments, processors, and other key industry entities,” said Anthony Prillaman, Director of the NASS Southern Regional Office.
Survey recipients are asked to respond securely online at agcounts.usda.gov, using the 12-digit survey code mailed with the survey, or to mail completed questionnaires back in the prepaid envelope. Farmers who have not responded by Saturday, Oct. 30 may receive a phone call from a NASS representative who will help them fill out the survey or schedule a time to do so.
All information reported by individuals will be kept confidential, as required by federal law. NASS will publish the survey results February 17, 2022.
