Parts of Southwest Florida Experience Dry Conditions

Drought conditions remain minimal across the Southeast. The only dry areas are located along the west coast of Florida and in northern Alabama, according to the most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Florida

The only part of Florida that is experiencing dry conditions is located along the west coast in the southern part of the state. It starts as high as Pasco County and spreads southward to Collier County. A severe drought is located in parts of Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties. A moderate drought is also observed along the western portions of Hardee, De Soto, Charlotte and Lee counties.

Alabama’s dry conditions start in Marion and Franklin counties and stretch eastward to Madison and Jackson counties. A moderate drought is observed in parts of Franklin, Lawrence, Colbert, Lauderdale and Limestone counties.

No abnormally dry conditions are reported in Georgia, so it has sufficient moisture. South Carolina is drought free, while only a couple of counties are abnormally dry in North Carolina. They include parts of Nash, Franklin, Warren and Halifax counties.
