The November issue of VSCNews magazine is all about water management issues.

Andrea Albertin and Mark Lusk, both with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS), discuss plans in the works to improve Florida’s water quality. The authors look at Florida’s current water issues, how septic tanks may be a part of the problem and ways you can be a part of the solution.

Another group of researchers from the UF/IFAS soil and water sciences department also discusses Florida’s water. They explain how ponds play a crucial role in a community’s stormwater management infrastructure and discuss the beginnings of the Healthy Ponds program.

Gary Hawkins, an assistant professor at the University of Georgia, knows that runoff can waste valuable nutrients for crops. So, he has completed some experimental projects to evaluate the best ways to reduce runoff in blueberry beds. Find out more about those projects in his article.

Clean WateR3 is a researcher-developed project to help growers find the best ways to reduce, remediate and recycle water in their production systems. Sarah White, a professor of Clemson University, explains what the project is and how it can help growers be the best stewards of the land.

Finally, it is almost time for the annual Florida Ag Expo! The Nov. issue of VSCNews magazine contains the Florida Ag Expo show guide.
