Whitefly infestations are higher than normal in certain areas across South Florida, according to the South Florida Pest and Disease Hotline.
Scouts have reported adult whiteflies are present on all crops in southwest Florida. Nymph populations are starting to build and becoming high enough to create sooty mold.
Population levels are moderate on beans in the Everglades Agricultural Area but are expected to increase amid the ongoing dry weather.
Whitefly population levels are moderate on beans along the east coast but are expected to increase with dry weather continuing. Pressure has also increased on mature tomatoes.
Dak Seal, entomologist with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, reports high populations on all crops. Scouts are also observing increased pressure in bean, tomato, squash and brassica fields with silverleaf symptoms on squash.
