Dry conditions are expanding and intensifying across Florida and Georgia, according to Thursday’s release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Florida’s dry conditions are still isolated to the southern region of the state, from Monroe County and part of Miami-Dade County to as far north as Hillsborough, Polk and Osceola counties. A severe drought is being experienced along the southwest area, including Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties, as well as in Glades, Martin and Palm Beach counties.
Georgia’s dry conditions remain in the southern region of the state, from Early, Clay and Quitman counties along the Georgia-Alabama state line, to Columbia, Richmond, Burke and Screven counties. A moderate drought is observed in multiple counties, from Effingham and Chatham counties to as far west as Calhoun, Terrell and Baker counties.
Alabama is mostly drought free. Only the southern areas of Mobile and Baldwin counties are abnormally dry, while portions of Barbour and Henry counties along the Alabama-Georgia state line are abnormally dry as well.
All of the eastern region of South Carolina is either abnormally dry or moderately dry, from Jasper County to Marlboro and Dillon counties.
All of the eastern area of North Carolina is either abnormally dry, moderately dry or severely dry; as far south as Brunswick County, to as far west as Hoke and Harnett counties, and as far north as Warren and Halifax counties.
