Vegetable imports increased significantly in April compared to previous seasons, according to the USDA Economic Research Service. The value of imports from other countries totaled $1.49 billion in April, compared to $1.25 billion in 2020, $1.275 billion in 2019, $1.162 billion in 2018 and $1.123 billion in 2017.
The fresh vegetable imports totaled $907 million in April, up significantly from the $759 million in 2020, $812 million in 2019, $704 million in 2018 and $704 million in 2017.

Fresh cucumbers’ value was $107.4 million in April, compared to $78.1 million in 2020, $76.8 million in 2019 and $69.4 million in 2018.
The value for fresh bell peppers was $141.4 million in April, compared to $123.1 million in 2020, $132.7 million in 2019 and $105.9 million in 2018.
Fresh sweet corn’s value was $8.5 million in April, compared to $3.3 million in 2020, $4.3 million in 2019 and $1.2 million in 2018.
