The November issue of VSCNews Magazine highlights the upcoming Florida Ag Expo, which will be held on Nov. 18 at the University of Florida (UF) Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma, Florida. The Expo’s return is highly anticipated following last year’s cancellation due to COVID-19.
The magazine outlines the conference’s agenda and what attendees can expect with the various field tours that will be offered.
Also, Nathan Boyd, UF/IFAS associate center director and professor at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center; and Arnold Schumann, professor at the UF/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred, Florida, discuss smart spray technology for weed control in row middles.
Artificial intelligence is also available for breeding better crops, discusses Tong Geon Lee, assistant professor at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center.
There is also a focus on improving the productivity of Florida-grown peaches. Tripti Vashisth, assistant professor at the UF/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center, discusses the use of hydrogen cyanamide and other work in Florida peaches related to uniform bud break and flowering.
Sriyanka Lahiri, assistant professor at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, talks about various management strategies for mites and thrips in organic strawberries.
