FEBRUARY 21, 2023 HLB MANAGEMENT, INDUSTRY NEWS RELEASE, PESTICIDES
Rectify, AgroSource, Inc.’s 95% oxytetracycline hydrochloride-based tree-injection product, is expected to be available for use against HLB in Florida citrus as early as Feb. 24. The product will be available to growers through existing commercial agricultural product distributors.
AgroSource petitioned and received a Special Local Needs (SLN) approval for Rectify by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) under Section 24(c) of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
Rectify is compatible with a range of third-party injection devices. It is injected directly into Florida citrus trees to kill Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), the bacterium responsible for development of HLB disease in citrus trees and fruit.
“AgroSource understands Florida citrus growers have been relentlessly hammered by HLB to the point where, in many instances, economic production of citrus is no longer possible,” the company stated. It reported that direct injection of Rectify into citrus trees has the potential to quickly arrest the damage and symptoms of HLB. AgroSource cited research by the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences’ Ute Albrecht. Her work showed efficacious results from direct injections with oxytetracycline hydrochloride into HLB-infected Florida citrus trees. Learn more about Albrecht’s research on trunk injection.
“It’s imperative that Rectify, as a potentially effective therapeutic for Florida citrus growers fighting HLB, be delivered as quickly as possible and at a reasonable price,” stated Taw Richardson, chief executive officer of AgroSource.
Users are advised to read and follow all label instructions and must have a copy of the Rectify SLN Section 24(c) label in their possession when making applications.
