
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) released key findings from a vegetable survey it conducted with growers in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Florida tomato production in 2024 totaled 638 million pounds, a decrease of 27% from 2023. The value of utilized production for tomatoes was $331 million, down 32% from last year. Sweet corn production in 2024 totaled 585 million pounds, down slightly from 2023. The value of utilized production for sweet corn was $293 million, an increase of 16% from last year.
Georgia’s onion production in 2024 totaled 263 million pounds, a 14% increase from 2023. The value of utilized production for onions totaled $160 million, a 12% increase from the previous year. Sweet corn production in 2024 totaled 261 million pounds, down 14% from 2023. The value of utilized production for sweet corn was $130 million, down 1% from last year.
South Carolina watermelon production in 2024 totaled 122 million pounds, up 21% from 2023. The value of utilized production for watermelons was $18.2 million, up 7% from the previous year.
