University of Georgia (UGA) Extension is currently hosting its annual pecan meetings, which follow last season’s harvests.
Lenny Wells, University of Georgia Extension pecan specialist, discussed what UGA experts are highlighting during the meetings held at various pecan-producing counties across South Georgia.
“We’ll be talking about what happened last year. We’ll be talking some about the normal stuff about management and things we can do to make it more efficient; try to get your inputs down as low as possible because that’s the key,” Wells said. “You’ve got to get those inputs down to be able to make it. There’s only so much you can do but there are some things we can do.
“Some of the scab issues, there will be a lot of talk about scab and some things our new pathologist has seen.”
The remaining pecan meetings include:
Feb. 9 Colquitt County
Feb. 10 Tattnall/Evans/Candler
Feb. 16 Crisp County
Feb. 19 Sumter County
March 5 Irwin/Ben Hill
March 10 Emmanuel County
