Florida tomato farmers and industry leaders should mark their calendars for this month’s Tomato Field Day, scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (GCREC) in Wimauma, Florida.
Multiple University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) scientists will present research pertinent to the tomato industry. Tomato breeder Jessica Chitwood-Brown will discuss a tomato hybrid research trial and highlight bacterial spot resistance in tomato breeding lines.
Weed scientist Nathan Boyd will provide weed management updates, while horticulturalist Shinsuke Agehara will provide application strategies for the efficient use of compost and biostimulants.
UF/IFAS plant pathologist Gary Vallad will discuss bioaerosols and pursuing alternative management strategies for soilborne pathogens.
The event will last from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The GCREC is located at 14625 CR 672, Wimauma, Florida, 33598.
