One of the worst droughts in recent memory in the Southeast continues to worsen, according to the most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Exceptional Drought
Exceptional drought conditions range from counties in the Florida Panhandle, like Gulf, Calhoun and Jackson counties; eastward to Nassau, Baker and Bradford in North Florida; and southward to Levy and Dixie counties. Exceptional drought also covers most of South Georgia, starting in the southwest corner of the state in Seminole and Early counties; stretching eastward to Camden and Glynn counties; and northward to Bulloch, Effingham and Screven counties.
A small part of Houston County in Southeast Alabama is observing exceptional drought as well.
Extreme Drought
The rest of the North Florida region is observing extreme drought conditions, along with the west coast and much of South Florida. Much of the remaining area in South Georgia is suffering through extreme drought as well. Extreme drought is also seen in North Georgia, stretching as far south as Henry, Butts and Jasper counties.
Extreme drought conditions continue to stretch over most of the southern region of Alabama as well. They start in the southeast corner of the state and expand westward to Mobile and Washington counties, and northward to Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb and Shelby counties.
All of North Alabama and the eastern part of the state is observing severe drought.
