Drought is expanding and worsening across the Southeast, especially in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, according to the most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor.
All of Alabama is suffering from dry conditions, ranging from abnormally dry to severe drought conditions. The driest part of the state is located in the northwest part of the state. Severe conditions are located in Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Winston and Limestone counties. They are also present in counties located in west-central Alabama, specifically Lamar, Fayette and Pickens counties.
Abnormally dry conditions are present in all of western Georgia and most of North Georgia. Moderate conditions are also being observed in Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Fannin, Union, Lumpkin, White and Rabun counties.
The Florida Panhandle is dry as well, ranging from moderate conditions to abnormally dry conditions. Moderate conditions start in Escambia County and stretch eastward to Holmes, Washington and Jackson counties. Abnormally dry conditions start in Walton County and stretch eastward to Jefferson and Taylor counties. Abnormally dry conditions are also observed along the Atlantic coast, starting in Volusia County and stretching southward to Indian River County.
