The Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association (FFVA) is urging the Senate for $12 billion in agricultural assistance.
The FFVA submitted a letter last week to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Florida senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody, looking for support in maintaining at least $12 billion in assistance included in the budget package approved by the House.
“As the Senate considers the budget reconciliation package, we urge your support for maintaining at least $12 billion in agricultural assistance approved by the House. Florida growers are still recovering from the $3.1 billion impact of severe winter weather earlier this year while facing weak commodity prices, rising labor costs, record production expenses and shrinking margins,” FFVA President Mike Joyner said in the letter.
“The $12 billion in assistance included in reconciliation will not make producers whole, but it will provide an important bridge until a new Farm Bill is enacted and provisions of the Working Families Tax Cuts take effect this October.
“We urge the Senate to advance reconciliation without delay and to include much-needed farm economic and disaster assistance,” the letter added.
