The House Committee on Agriculture announced this week the passage of the H.R. 7567, Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2026 out of committee.

House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn Thompson (PA-15) addressed the bill’s importance following its passage:

“Today, my colleagues at the House Committee on Agriculture stepped up for farm country and passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 out of committee,” Thompson said. “I am proud of this bill, as well as the work that’s been done to improve it during the last two days.

“After a markup that lasted over 20 hours, the legislation reflects the will of the committee, and it is filled with bipartisan provisions that will move the needle for farmers, ranchers, and rural Americans across the country.”

SCFBA Approves

The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance (SCFBA) issued the following statement on the approval of H.R. 7567.

“The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance commends Chairman Thompson for his leadership, and we are grateful to the House Agriculture Committee for advancing the farm bill process. H.R. 7567 includes key bipartisan provisions that would enhance the competitiveness of the family farms that produce specialty crops in the U.S.”

“At a time when our producers confront unprecedented economic challenges, enacting a full five-year farm bill is critical to the continued sustainability of American agriculture and the communities specialty crop producers serve.”

Farm Bill Process

Kam Quarles, CEO of the National Potato Council and SCFBA co-chair, is hopeful that a farm bill can be finalized by the end of this year. He discussed the process the farm bill must take before it becomes law.
