A new year brings a new name to VSCNews Magazine. That’s right, the leader in specialty crop news will now be known as Specialty Crop Industry.
The January issue of Specialty Crop Industry highlights the name change and what it means for its parent company, AgNet Media.
The issue also focuses on blueberries and highlights different aspects of the crop that make it a vital part of the specialty crop industry.
Jonathan Oliver, assistant professor at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, discusses algal stem blotch disease. It is becoming widespread in Georgia, which is not what producers want to hear.
Ulschan Bathe, a postdoctoral fellow, and Bryan Leong, a postdoctoral researcher, at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, talk about blueberries’ status as a superfood crop.
Kimberly L. Morgan, an associate professor and Extension economist at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Southwest Florida Research and Education Center, highlights market trends in the blueberry industry and what it means for growers.
Doug Phillips, a UF/IFAS blueberry Extension coordinator at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, talks about a new smart-phone application that puts vital information at growers’ fingertips.
Other stories center on small-scale production practices; the effect heavy rain events can have on pre-emergent herbicides in vegetable crops; and how a La Niña will impact crops this season.
