
The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Indian River Research and Education Center (IRREC) will host its annual open house on Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2199 South Rock Road in Fort Pierce. It will offer tours of the research facility, interactive workshops and glasses of fresh orange juice.
The event provides the public a chance to learn about IRREC’s research, Extension and teaching programs hands-on. Faculty will present workshops on DIY sensors, biological control for invasive plants and handling fruits and vegetables at home. Tours will also be done of the aquaculture facility, which researches tropical fish.
Informative seminars will be held on crucial regional topics, such as water quality in the Indian River Lagoon and citrus production in Florida.
There will also be a scavenger hunt with a chance to win prizes.
