The Georgia/Florida Irrigation Expo is slated for Wednesday, June 10 at the University of Georgia (UGA) Vidalia Onion and Vegetable Research Center in Lyons, Georgia. The UGA and University of Florida (UF) Extension Services are partnering with local RC&D councils and Soil & Water Conservation Districts to host the expo with a focus on irrigation.
Cale Cloud, UGA Grady County ANR agent, highlighted what attendees can expect at this year’s event.
“It’s basically going to focus on all sorts of irrigation; center pivot, drip, it doesn’t matter. If it’s irrigation, it’s going to be highlighted,” Cloud said. “It’s for all crops, too; row crops, vegetables, citrus, pecans. We’ll be talking about irrigation for all of that.”
The event will start at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. There will be live demonstrations, including blue-dye tests, pivot uniformity and micro-irrigation for freeze protection. More than 25 exhibitors will be in attendance, showcasing a range of irrigation products and knowledge.
“We actually started this last year as a collaboration between the University of Florida and UGA Extension. The last one was actually held in Live Oak (Fla.). We’re wanting this to try to be an annual event,” Cloud said. “We’ll have it next year again in Florida, just to highlight all of the technologies that’s out there; educational stuff as well, just to let companies and vendors introduce themselves and their companies and their products.”
Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP beforehand so event organizers can get an accurate head count for lunch.
