The most recent release of the U.S. Drought Monitor shows worsening drought conditions across the Southeast, especially in Alabama, Georgia and North Florida.
Severe conditions are prevalent in southern Alabama, starting in Clarke and Baldwin counties and stretching eastward to Barbour, Henry and Houston counties. Northwest Alabama is also severely dry, starting in Pickens County and stretching northward to Colbert, Lauderdale and Limestone counties.
The rest of Alabama is moderately dry.
Most of central and western Georgia is either abnormally dry or moderately dry. Moderate conditions start in Haralson County and stretch southward, along the Georgia-Alabama border, to Seminole and Decatur counties. Moderate conditions are also observed in North Georgia, starting in Dade County and stretching eastward to Rabun, Habersham and Stephens counties.
Abnormally dry conditions in North Georgia stretch as far east as Columbia, Lincoln, Elbert and Hart counties.
The Florida Panhandle has dry conditions ranging from abnormally dry to severely dry. Severe conditions start in Escambia County and stretch eastward to Washington and Jackson counties. Moderate conditions start in Walton County and stretch eastward to Wakulla and Leon counties.
Abnormally dry conditions are also observed in counties along the Atlantic coast, starting in Volusia County and stretching southward to Brevard County.
